Monster Quilt

Being that Thanksgiving is just around the corner brought back a memory of this quilt I gave my son as he was visiting with his family that year…and wanting to celebrate his birthday I finally finished “The Monster Quilt” . I knew he would like it because he has eclectic tastes…tough to buy for and always was a trial to get him something for his birthday and then be happy about it. Christmas was a trial to say the least…

The backstory behind the quilt is interesting…a dear friend and I were on our way to Huntsville, Alabama to go to a Martha Pullen School. We stopped in a really neat quilt shop in “Franklin, Tennessee”.  Saw this quilt hanging up and just knew I wanted it. Alas each block was like $35.00 with fabrics etc. and then would be shipped to me. To much…and I inwardly cried…”I Want All the Blocks Now”! …it was not to be….oh well… then headed on to the school….great time as always…

The school has a teachers selling night and boy there are tons of neat stuff….next thing I hear is my friend “Yelling…Avis come here!”..now you need to envision this…women lots of them…all talking and me hearing by friend over this crowd….Well…low and behold she saw a “Whole” kit of the “Monster Quilt” being sold at one of the booths. Only ONE… for $100.00… (no tax)… we were both so surprised and of course I snatched it up…and saved quite a bit of money…to boot!

Best thing when I finally finished it was the response I got from my son who was 36 years old….He whispered to me “Mom, best birthday ever!” Never had he said that to me before…what a gift… He keeps it for his naps and the dogs are not allowed….!

Love to hear comments...thanks!
